Movies That Matter: The Man from Earth

Movies That Matter is back! And it has moved to a new place and time: Lentil As Anything in Newtown, on the first Sunday of the month at 6PM.

Movies That Matter is a film night hosted by The Zeitgeist Movement Sydney Chapter (TZM Sydney), in which we play one to three interesting and relevant short videos (such as animations or TED talks) followed by a short discussion, and a thought-provoking main film. The purpose is to bring us together, to promote constructive discussion, to challenge our own preconceptions and biases, and to revisit key elements of TZM’s holistic socioeconomic model (NLRBE, i.e. Natural Law/Resource Based Economy), and its philosophy and proposal.

This week we’re showing The Man from Earth. Filmed as a play, in near real-time, no special effects, average acting, this brilliant 90-minute film is by far one of the most unusual movies ever made. It is totally engrossing and tantalising, not to your eyes, not to your ears, but rather your brain. Its content is very relevant to TZM as it challenges the official story and everything we take for granted.

We invite you at 6PM for a quick social dinner downstairs, and for sharing a couple of clips and a chat at 6:30PM upstairs. The feature film will start at 7:30PM. We may continue the conversation after the film at the pub next to the station.

Lentil As Anything provides delicious vegan food in a convenient space in the heart of Newtown. Food and film is on donation to Lentil ($15 recommended). Looking forward to seeing you all there!

A New Story For Humanity – Camping Trip

2016 brought many long-standing issues more out into the open, for example social inequality where the top 8 billionaires are as wealthy as the poorest half of humanity, education issues, job insecurity into the future, unsustainable food production and security, ever increasing data on climate changes that demand attention and the necessity to act , self-centred politics that serves the few and not the many, and untold other issues.

So it is becoming apparent to more and more people that as we face the future, Capitalism as we know it isn’t working and the stories on which we have built our lives aren’t working now, and certainly won’t work into the future. For example, higher education and lifelong career are no longer a given, in fact the ‘ism’s’, Capitalism, Communism, Consumerism aren’t working so many who have studied the rise and fall of civilisations are calling for a’New Story’ by which we can live, not only in a socially equitable way with each other, but with the Earth itself.

That story isn’t written yet, so now is the time to come together to add our thoughts, feelings, values and actions to that Story.

Bindarrabi are holding the space for a ‘New Story’, we feel this is an appropriate event to start our year. Findhorn Community hosted a conference in 2015 on the “New Story” which attracted delegates from over 40 countries, and has produced a film based on that conference. We invite you to Bindarrabi to view the film and we will use the different segments as discussion topics.

So,

Come and join us on Feb 11th and 12th

to add your hopes and aspirations, and deepen your commitment to action for a ‘New Story’ to live by for you, your community and all of humanity.

This event is open to anyone, not just those interested in intentional communities, so please invite your friends and neighbours.

We would also like to experiment with the Gift Economy of which some of you will have heard. Charles Eisenstein returned this concept to wider awareness with his book Sacred Economics.

Hence we won’t request our normal camping fees but are open to whatever you might like to Gift for the weekend.

The evening meal on Saturday will be a shared meal so bring something simple and yummy. There will be shared preparation time earlier on Saturday so we can have a relaxed but timely dinner.

Lets share our Creativity: There will be a table/s where you can bring things to Gift, exchange or sell e.g. seeds, plants, things you have made, crafted.

A proposed but flexible schedule is:

Saturday

9-11.30 Meet and Mingle, have a cuppa, go for a walk or help with any dinner prep required.

2-4:30 Gather in Circle for welcome and intro.

Discussions on what needs to change externally and what you might want to change personally.

Ceremony to release ‘The Old’

6pm-7pm : Dinner

7:15 Movie & Discussion

9:15 Close

Sunday

9-11am Adding clarity and resolve to our New Story and closing ceremony.

We look forward to sharing this exciting time with you !

Monthly Movies that Matter

Come together on the 3rd Saturday of every month with Zeitgeist Movement supporters to watch an interesting and insightful movie/documentary for discussion.

Each month represents an important theme, such as education, war, politics, money, communication, technology or science.

Before the movie, we will give an update on what’s happening with the Zeitgeist Movement, some short clips leading up to the feature film, followed by a discussion and dinner at a nearby restaurant afterwards.

A great way to meet like-minded people, enjoy a movie and talk about some of the most important issues and discoveries of our time. We look forward to meeting you.

~ FUTURE THINKERS SESSIONS ~

Future Thinkers Sessions for the Zeitgeist Movement Australia

SCIENCE – TECHNOLOGY – NATURE – SUSTAINABILITY

An open platform to meet and chat with other ‘self-proclaimed’ controversial deep thinkers, scientists and philosophers… basically anyone who likes to think about anything. This is a realistic, fun and empowering meet-up about applying science to social concern. Don’t worry, we don’t put you on the spot… there’s no expectation to explain your position, and no expectation of any qualification. It’s not in our ‘cynical yet idealistic, atheist, technocratic anarchistic activist’ nature. 😉 😛

We provide…

• Free vegan brain-food (otherwise known as snacks!)

• Short presentations on human behaviour, society, new crazy technologies  and cool ideas for hacking life!!

• Study groups and panel discussions on philosophical questions like “How do we engage people resistant to logic and reason?” or “Does wealth provide happiness?”

• Awesome socially-aware music, podcasts and radio shows

• Insightful and hilarious pointed videos for social concern

Please feel free to sit at the back and hide in the corner, or announce your opinion of some particular policy, or share your understanding of a scientific discovery or discuss your general thoughts on a particular topic. 😀 😉 We’d love that. We look forward to meeting you!
