Theatre Night!

Hey Geisters!

The Theatre Grubs workshop is on every Thursday evening from 6:30pm until 9:00pm at 121 Cordelia St, South Brisbane.

We would love to see you and a friend there as we head in a exciting direction to create theatre that bites. As usual, you will learn how to work in a team and contribute to the development of new performances that will empower you and those around you, as well as develop new skills!

Each week we share our experiences and knowledge to dig deeper exploring what kind of production we can put on. We feel that some important social/philosophical/political messages can be addressed and delivered to our Brisbane community through a theatre production.

So come along, join us and let’s have a say in our future through creating art that bites!

Movies That Matter

Hi fellow Geisters!

It is that time of the month again, the anticipated event ‘Movies That Matter’. This month we will focus on Behavioural Economics!

This Saturday we will be showing 2 short clips focusing on the theme Behavioural Economics followed by the main film, a documentary called ‘Human Resources: Social Engineering.

The film will be shown in Lane Cove Library. Seats are limited, so RSVP is essential. We will meet at the library’s cinema room (through the main door to the right until the end of the corridor) at 1PM sharp. After the film we will gather at a cafe to chat about the film, and to choose what we will show next month.

The Divide – Australian Premiere Documentary Screening

This film is inspired by the critically-acclaimed, best-selling book “The Spirit Level” by Prof Richard Wilkinson (Univerity of Nottingham) and Prof Kate Pickett (University of York).

The Divide tells the story of 7 individuals striving for a better life in modern day US and UK – where the top 0.1% owns as much wealth as the bottom 90%. By plotting these tales together, we uncover how every aspect of our lives is controlled by one factor: the size of the gap between rich and poor. This isn’t based on real life. This is real life. By weaving these stories with news archive from 1979 to the present day, The Divide creates a lyrical, psychological and tragi-comic picture of how economic division creates social division.

The Divide serves as both a call to arms, and a powerful warning.

DIRECTED AND PRODUCED BY: Katharine Round

EXECUTIVE PRODUCER: Christopher Hird, Dartmouth Films

TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9w8JrDILQBM

Doors and bar open at 6pm for a 6:30 start. 75 minutes running time, after which the bar is open again, nibble provided.

TICKET PRICING: Dartmouth Films is an independent production company. The sustainability of independent film making relies on people paying to watch the films they see. The producers have had tremendous support from crowd funders, from some private foundations and others but they do not have the resources of a broadcast commission or a large production company behind them. The income from the film is what makes it possible to make it. Please keep this in mind when choosing tickets, which are varied in price – given the theme of the documentary – and pay according to your ability. Please click the link here to pay in advance (unreserved seating):

Monthly Movies that Matter

Come together on the 3rd Saturday of every month with Zeitgeist Movement supporters to watch an interesting and insightful movie/documentary for discussion.

Each month represents an important theme, such as education, war, politics, money, communication, technology or science.

Before the movie, we will give an update on what’s happening with the Zeitgeist Movement, some short clips leading up to the feature film, followed by a discussion and dinner at a nearby restaurant afterwards.

A great way to meet like-minded people, enjoy a movie and talk about some of the most important issues and discoveries of our time. We look forward to meeting you.
