Monthly Movies that Matter – December

At our Monthly Movies that Matter we show movies that are interesting for critical thinkers and relevant for creating a better world. They are mostly documentaries, but we also show other movies, recordings of interesting talks, etc.
After the movie(s) we discuss what we have watched and talk about other interesting topics. Sometimes we also have guest speakers.

This month the movie voted on in the previous monthly movies that matter was a speak by Robert Sapolsky who is an American neuroendocrinologist, professor of biology, neuroscience, and neurosurgery at Stanford University, researcher and author. The name of the lecture is ‘Biological Underpinnings of Religiosity’ (1hr 20min)

Therefore this month we will focus discussion on the effect of religion in society.

See everyone Saturday!

Monthly Movies that Matter – November

The Zeitgeist Movement Queensland brings you Monthly Movies that Matter, this month focusing on climate change.

This month we will watch some short interesting, provocative and inspiring clips based on climate change/global warming, with opportunity for discussion in between, followed by the first episode of “The Years of Living Dangerously”. We may also have a guest speaker.

Each episode follows high-profile correspondents such as Matt Damon, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jessica Alba, Michael C. Hall who investigate a range people who have been directly effected by climate change.

Each month we also vote on next month’s movie or theme. Everyone in attendance is welcome to make a suggestion and vote using minimum-opposition. Check out last month’s vote here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1gwIgzll_iV9fLInuUWn9VnTJLxe2bXdWexINLuBBIDI/edit?usp=sharing

The event will be held in the Brisbane Square Library in the Theatrette free of charge. It’s a perfect opportunity to learn more about a more positive future, find out more about what’s happening in the Zeitgeist Movement locally, nationally and globally… and if you’d like to be more involved. Most importantly, it’s a great way to make friends, connect with like-minded people and have a great time.

After the film we mingle at Govinda’s in the city and then make a decision from there where to go. Please feel free to join us for this too if you can’t make it to the movie. Feel free to bring books to trade… and to bring your flash drive to share resources. We look forward to seeing you there.

Social night, ZMF artist mingling & Z-Day celebrations

Come and join TZM Brisbane for a social night at our venue for the Zeitgeist Media Festival in October. This is a public event, open for newbies in a fairly relaxed atmosphere with plenty of opportunity to mingle and discuss anything you like. Drinks for purchase are available at the bar.

If you’re an artist, musician, poet, comedian, film maker or whatever your platform, and you have a desire for social change, come along and you can meet other artists and organisers for the Zeitgeist Media Festival. We are planning on organising a jam for musicians leading up to the event in October (but this will probably not be advertised publicly).

For regulars, recently we have discussed the importance of celebrating success – so for this event we’re also taking the opportunity to toast the success of Z-Day earlier this year. Bring some photos or videos of Z-Day, memories, congratulations and feedback.

If you can’t make it at 5:30 feel free to join us later in the evening. We hope to see you there!

Zeitgeist Media Festival

War, poverty, collusion, corruption, environmental degradation, discrimination, failing health care, politics, corporate greed… sometimes it all just seems too much to deal with.

In a world that seems to be falling apart, how can we keep our chins up?

The Zeitgeist Media Festival is a platform for artists, musicians, poets and film-makers to inspire, to rouse emotion, to connect.

This year’s theme is EMPOWERMENT.

Let’s get thinking about the possibility of a better world – focusing on peace, abundance, collaboration, a clean environment, positive technologies, improved health and nutrition, sharing and respect for all.

Our goal is to build an artistic movement for a positive future. Artists have always been crucial for social change and so it is again now. After all, the founder of the Zeitgeist Movement, Peter Joseph is an artist himself and the whole movement started because of his love for music, film making and telling it like it is!

Artists hold a lot more power than they think, that is why it is so sad that they are often pushed into marketing jobs where their creativity is milked for the profit machine.

Check out our amazing film maker archive from Zeitgeist Media Festival 2014.

</a>If you’re an artist of any kind (film maker, comedian, musician, writer, painter etc.) who would love to exhibit empowering work, come along and tell your story, play your music, sing your songs and share your vision of a positive future so we can break through the wall of mainstream media that most people have around them.

The bar will be open to buy drinks and we will also be providing some delicious vegan food.

If you’d like to volunteer your time to make this day even more special, we’d love to hear from you. Anyone who’d like to help out with food, organisation or sharing their art work, contact our amazing Zeitgeist Media Festival Coordinator, Caroline.
