FUTURE THINKERS SESSIONS ~ Eco-Robots for a sustainable future?

An open platform to meet and chat with other ‘self-proclaimed’ controversial deep thinkers, scientists and philosophers… basically anyone who likes to think about anything. This is a realistic, fun and empowering meet-up about applying science to social concern.

This month we are fortunate enough to have Professor Tristan Perez joining us to share his exciting work on Agricultural Robots, or Agbots. Tristan is a professor of Robotics and Autonomous Systems at QUT and also part of QUT’s Institute for Future Environments (IFE). IFE’s mission is to combine multi-disciplinary expertise to find ways to make our world more sustainable, secure, and resilient. Robotic technology is transforming practices in industries such as mining, manufacturing and health. Following this trend, Tristan envisages that this technology will also soon have a significant impact on agricultural practices, assisting farms to make the management decisions that will decrease hard labour and the use of agrochemicals as well as preserve energy and water.

We will also show a range of short clips about the potential of other robots in other industries, which will lead nicely into our theme for March’s Future Thinkers Sessions, focusing on ways we can manage the future of automation in our economy.

After and in between we have opportunities for study groups and panel discussions on philosophical questions and and insightful and hilarious pointed videos for social concern.

Please feel free to sit at the back and hide in the corner, or announce your opinion of some particular policy, or share your understanding of a scientific discovery or discuss your general thoughts on a particular topic. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜‰ We’d love that. We look forward to meeting you!

Before the presentation and discussion points, we will give an update on what’s happening with the Zeitgeist Movement, then finish the evening with dinner at a nearby restaurant.

A great way to meet like-minded people, enjoy a movie and talk about some of the most important issues and discoveries of our time. We look forward to meeting you.
